Bronze League Mid Season Report-Next season details

With the Bronze League set to split at the end of the season, lets take a look at where the teams stand.

Moving to the upper division or the true Bronze League is no doubt going to be MIB, Rampage, Bandits, and Puddle Jumpers.   Those four are at the tops of their divisions, and seemingly cruising into the playoffs.   A strong candidate to be the fifth of six teams in the upper division is the Keller Indians.   Keller sits at 1-2-1 this season, but considering that half their team plays in the Silver League, and at Nytex you can only play down one division, the Tribe would have to go to the upper division otherwise they might not be able to field a team.

So now if form holds there really is only one spot up for grabs in the upper division next season.   Sens have had a slow start this season, but have pulled it back to 2-3.   Stingers who have five kegs are now sitting at a miserable 1-4 in the bottom of their division.   Joes and Whalers have shown flashes, but yet to really light a fire this season.   Spider Monkeys have won 40% of their games this season, which ammonts to only 2 wins, but considering they have averaged two wins a season for the past few years this is a good start.   Spider Monkeys have several players who play in Silver, so its just a matter of time before they light the league up and take it to the next level.   Jets have been a good team in the past, but lately have been struggling to score.

The team who wins the lower division will have the option to move up to the upper division in their next season.   Doing this will force the team who finishes last in Bronze down to the lower division.   Also word on the street is that lower division teams are going to be allowed to have one Silver League captain on their squad as a player coach type person.

  4. Its okay Rampage #33(Dave). This is what happens when we win. Its a good thing. I must warn you though...rumor is Stingers #15 is attracted to douchebags and will stop at nothing to get in your pants. You have been warned...

  5. Why do the lower tier players get one silver league player? That totally contradicts why you are making this move.

  6. One Silver League PlayerOctober 20, 2010 at 9:19 AM

Lower tier teams get one silkver player if they so choose to be an on ice coach. To show the other players positioning and etc. Plus every team in the league has at least one silver league player. CHL teams have 4-6 veterans, the one silver leaguer rule is more or less the same.

  7. "Plus every team in the league has at least one silver league player." This is exactly my point. How is this going to make anything different? Someone has to be in the bottom half of the standings. With this system 6th place will be 1st place in the lower teir and get a trophy. How is this fair to everyone else who performed better. Plus now everyone will only have 4 other teams to play during the season, kind of boring don't you think?

  8. In the new system 6th place will not be awarded a trophy, they will be last. Last place does not get a trophy. THe next season if the winner of the lower tier wants to move up, then the 6th place team from the first division will drop down, but it doesnt guarantee them a trophy. They will still have to play by the rules. One Silver Leaguer does not really change stuff that much. Spider Monkeys have several silver leaguers on their team, and they find a way to get beat just about every game. James Hurley moved up to the Silver League, and I think he had two career Bronze League goals.

Yes it may be boring at first to have only 5 or 6 teams in your league, but this allows room to grow. IN the summer the leagues can havae room to expand. Splitting the bronze into two leagues makes more sense than letting MIB win the keg every year. As it stands now a team like Spider Monkeys or Jets has ZERO chance of ever winning the keg, how is that fair.

  9. Do Spider Monkeys and Jets have ZERO chance because of MIB or is it due to lack of getting better players and getting better themselves? The person you spoke of early probably has ZERO chance of scoring a goal in Silver but he is stepping it up and facing a new challenge. Good for him. I doubt you will see him lobbying for another division in Silver where he can score goals just to feel special. Also, there is a chance for these teams to win a Keg as things stand now. It is called practice and determination. Besides does everyone need to win a Keg? Why not an 11 tier system where everyone gets a Keg?

  10. Spider Monkeys have no shot at winnign Keg as it stands now. The team didnt even want a coach, and has zero desire to skate. Its more a social club where guys get together to skate, drink, and drink some more.

The league has grown now, even with Mayhem leaving and the league dropping to 11 teams, there is too much paridy. A split is needed, I got tired of playing with the monkeys cause we got our ass beat each week. Its a good thing, Bravoi.

  12. Thank you ex-Spider Monkey! This is my point. If a team does not care to win, why create a league that designed to help them win? If the Spider Monkeys are fine losing and enjoying beers after the game then so be it. That is there right. I would really like to know how many lower tier teams actually want to be in the lower tier.

  13. If a team wants to lose, then that's up to them, and it doesn't matter which league they're in--they'll do it regardless. However, it's not a lot of fun to show up for a season knowing you'll probably only win one game.

The 'Bronze' league is not a true I-league as it stands now. Players join hoping to learn, and usually wind up getting the puck stolen from them, and then stand there and watch. How does that help someone who wants to learn the game? While there will be fewer teams to play against in each respective league, the competition should be much closer, giving everyone a chance to post the 'W'.

As a PJ, I can tell you that our goal is to move up to Silver. There's also talk of fielding another PJ team soon, and these will fit well into the new Copper league. For now, Bronze will give us the level of competition we need to continue to improve. NYTEX got this one right.

I feel that there is a need to make a move and change things up. The level of play within the bronze league has increased over the past couple years. People have been improving, some strong new teams have come in, and there are lots of folks doing double duty with the bronze and silver. There has been a need for a 4th league for quite sometime, and now is a great time to make it happen.

By creating a 4th league there will once again be a true I League where beginners will have the chance to touch the puck a little bit more and develop their skills. It is frusterating not only to players, but also to the rink to see beginners pay money to play hockey and get into the game only to not ever have a chance to touch the puck or figure anything out.

I am sure there will be some static at first, and some growing pains, but the move to make a fourth league is something that needs to be done. Once the leagues are all established and running everything will make more sense.

And if something doesnt work out, we can always adjust down the road. Plans now are for an upper bronze league consisting of 6 teams, and a lower Copper League consisting of 5-6 teams. The thought is that these two leagues grow just like the bronze league did. Bronze league will compete for Lord Stanley's Keg, and the Copper will compete for the Moog Cup.

  15. What if a team would like to have a sqad in both leagues, so they can put new players in the copper and the experienced players in the bronze, would that be ok?

It is perfectly ok to have a team in both leagues. You can play for a team in both leagues if you want. You just cant play for a team in Silver and the lower league.

  17. Speaking of the Spider Monkeys, how can they have that jackass Gabe Rivera on their team? I'm fairly certain he's played C league in Euless. Guess he wants to feel good skating around all the terrible bronze leaguers.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Don't worry about Gabe. The Spider Monkeys are moving to the lower tier and he will only be skating around the most unexperienced players in the league. That will fix everything. And NYTEX thought people complained about the way things are now. Just wait. All this is going to do is make the worst teams suck at an even lower level.

  19. Speaking of the Silver League. Why can we get PointStreak unscrewed? You have a link on this site but it goes straight to old crap from past seasons. CLEAN IT UP!!!!!!!! GET IT RIGHT!!!!!!! In order to get info on this season you have to search the PointStreak website. Shouldn't be upset though, a schedule of more than two games is finally there (only took six weeks). Hint, Hint, NYTEX PUT THE REST OF THE SCHDULE UP!!!! And BLOG Master get the link unfricked!!!!
