Stingers win the Bronze League

The Stingers took their second consecutive Keg over the weekend beating the Senators and Whalers en route to their league record fifth Stanley Keg Championship. The Stingers have been nearly unbeatable over the past two seasons, however good news for those of you who have been crying for them to move up.
This summer the Stingers will have a Bronze League team led by the Original Bee himself, Dan Fenili, and a Silver league team led by #27 Steve Meek. Congrats Stingers, you are the first team to successfully defend the Keg in the modern playoff era of the Stanley Keg Championships.

  1. Great game Whalers. That was one hell of a battle and the best game of the season.

  2. What was the score?

  3. "Bonehead Coach Award" goes to the man behind the Whalers' bench for making his team ice the puck every time they touched it deep in their zone - we scored several goals after offensive zone face-offs resulting from icing calls...
PLUS - when he came off the bench, onto the ice to yell at our bench, that should have been an AUTOMATIC EJECTION...(does the league really condone this behavior? will he be allowed to coach here in the future?)

"Bonehead Player Award" goes to #98: He tells me he's so tired of hearing me talk about the 50 or so icing calls, that he's gonna gun for me next time he has the puck. What happens? I lose the face-off, he shoots a rocket square into my chest, which then bounces to my D-man who shoots and scores!!!
(Totally class-less trying to intentionally cause injury, but great that he hurt his own team doing it!)

  4. Too bad a few really bad apples ruined it for the rest of the team - most of the Whalers seemed really cool. If they cut the jerks from the roster, I predict they will continue winning. Keeping the creeps around, despite their ability will only bring the rest of the team down - just my 2 cents worth.

  5. I know when we played the Whalers most of the guys were cool but a few guys were dicks. I don't know their #s but you are correct in that a few guys give the whole team a bad name.
Congrats on some of the Stingers for moving up. We've given y'all a bunch a of shit but good luck in the Silver league.

  6. Watching the game from the penalty box side it's no wonder the Whalers acted that way. Their fans were as classless as the players. When the Stingers would get a penalty they would yell "get in the box cry baby" but if the Whalers got a penalty they would start yelling at Hale. Hey pot this is the kettle, you're black. Just remeber those players parents, friends, wives, and kids are sitting there. Be good sports everyone!

  7. For those of you commenting on the Whalers behavior, you should have been sitting behind the benches and heard the things being said by the Stingers. I am not condoning the Whalers behavior, but it was coming from both sides.
As for the player from the stingers calling out the coach of the whalers and yelling F*** you to him in front of not only his child, but other children also, something needed to be said to him.
As a good rule of thumb, you should know what actually happened before commenting on the situation.

  8. I agree, but the person who wrote the entry above had it wrong as well.
Behind the Stingers bench was my wife who was busy with my two small
kids, Bricos wife and little girl, my mother in-law, my sister and her
husband who was recording the game. It wasn't coming from behind our
bench. I'll be honest after watching the video it wasn't that bad
coming from your fans either but their were some people making it
uncomfortable for the mothers and their kids. As for the guy yelling
at your coach, that was wrong and a few of us got onto him after
that. For that I am sorry.

  9. Its ok Whalers I dont doubt the stingers were the once starting the shit for a second. They like to talk shit and then point the fingers. Oh well now that they have won the keg...again. Must be fun...

  10. since when is shit talking NOT a part of hockey...get over it, its all part of the fun

  11. Your right it was the Stingers. When we finaly got the lead we thought it would be a good time to talk shit and take cheap shots. Like #3 said earlier we have it all on video if you want to see.

Shit talking is part of it butt the guys In the stands don't have to talk trash infront of all the family and kids. Show some class. With half of us moving up who will you bitch about next?
Oh and yes it was great to win the keg again.

  12. Sure, get everybody fired up then move to the silver league. Don't worry everyone, next season we loose our top five guys and pick up 2-3 true beginners. Y'all will have fun running up the score on the Stingerls left behind.

  14. The Stingers bitching about potty mouths and head hunting? You guys aren't bad to play with, but damn playing against you is like getting ass fucked... no one enjoys it.

  15. Wow. What a truly magical and equally necessary parallel.

  16. How about the soundtrack though??? Ha ha I had fun making that disc my only complaint was that I had both national anthems on there at the beginning and they did not play them. Thought that would have been cool for the Keg final but oh well.

As for the coaching call to Ice the puck it was a smart strategy bad execution on our part for trying to take out frustration (see above) or just simply running around in our own end. I wish we would have kept our heads and cool and played our game the score would have been tighter I think and much better game all around. Oh well woulda shoulda coulda.

I would like to say that I have noticed improvement by a lot of players on all the teams not only from winter to spring but from beginning of spring to the playoffs. Severe Icing was much improved the second go around, and Rampage really made strides as well.

    Cheers

  17. Wow, my buddy was right about this blog. He told me that everyone hates on the Stingers and bashes them every chance they get.

I was at the final game and elected to sit on the opposite side from the "fans" of the Whalers. You would have thought it was the NHL for God's sake. What a bunch!

I believe it was the "fans" that egged the players on to get as cheap and chippy as they did in the third when it became apparent the Whaler's were going to lose.

Some people's kids.... you just can't take them anywhere!

As far as one of the Stinger's guys yelling at the other coach, if I were in the game I'd have done the same thing with the exception that I would have punched him in the nose for coming over the boards to my bench! He deserved the tongue lashing for allowing (maybe even encouraging) those guys to take runs at people. I saw no less than 6 times where the Whaler's had no intention of playing the puck, rather they tried to line up a couple of the Stinger's and take them out. To point out a couple... 98 on 88 going into the end boards... 98 on 27 in the open ice, fortunately 27 saw it coming and side stepped most of it, but still it looked like he caught a high elbow on the way by, then in the same play 11 takes a run at him and plants him into the boards! I thought 27 was going to take his head off whe he skated over to 11 on the way to the box! Good call by that guy not to retaliate...

The Whaler's and "fans" were classless in my opinion.

    Have a nice day!

  18. ...why are you putting "" around fans?

  21. You can make fun of me all you want. I'm not one of the guys everybody goes after. The smack talk is fine on the ice but as a father of two small kids who don't understand it's hard to explain when they get upset. That's all I'm saying. Some of us do try to get our hot headed team mates to settle down.

  23. Why don't you ask the other team's goalie, his wife is a dyke! Reggie told me she was. She should know....

  24. It was hockey. It was fun and exciting (albeit frustrating). Whalers and stingers BOTH had tempers raised, or rather some did. It's part of hockey and it's called emotion. Good win stingers! Good luck next season. I thought the fans were great. Mostly because no other team was able to even get fans to come to the games.

  25. I love the game of hockey, but dont like to watch low level adult hockey. It is painful like watching 5 year olds play soccer.
