Stanley Keg Play in Game-Ranger Division

The Ranger Division will have a play in game for the 4th and 5th seeds since Mayhem moved on up to the East Side (Silver Division).   Now this one is a coin toss as to who should win.   Both are old school Bronze League teams that have been arond forever, however they both look completely different these days.   Spider Monkeys have some sharp new Reebok jerseys, and the Stingers have a completely new roster.   Stingers have struggled to find wins since winning their record setting 5th Keg.   Spider Monkeys have started to click here the past couple seasons and have been getting more wins and slowly gaining momentum.

This could be the last Spider Monkey game at Nytex as the team is heading out east to Euless next session to join their I -League.   Best of luck to the Monkeys in their quest out in Euless, they are an original team that didnt ask for much just to play hockey and drink beer.   The Monkeys will be without Bronze League Bad Boy Todd Kilgore as he is suspended for an altercation with CJ Fisher of the Sens.

My guess is this one will go to the Monkeys, and their quest for that elusive Keg will continue.  I say they win 4-2 on the back bone of 3 goals from Mark Crouse and one from Tony Digiovanni.

Bandits / Puddle Jumpers Saturday Showdown...

The #2 seed, the Bandits led by their goalie Greg "Boycott Zuromas" Perry matched up against the #1 seed, led by Mike "Blad Brit" Best for a classic Saturday night show down at Nytex to determine the overall winner of the regular season Texan Division race.

The winner of this game, even though the Bandits do have one more game to play, accoring to NYTEX does not count for points, will clinch the title. The two teams were tied going into this, but the Puddle Jumpers had 8 wins and 1 loss and the Bandits had 7 wins and two OT losses, thus tieing up the points at 16 a piece!

This was going to be a doozie! And it was!

The Bandits took an early lead in the 1st period and were just throwing shot after shot at Best, one lucky shot caught a skate blade and just 'popped' over best shoulder. The Puddle Jumpers rallied and came back to 1-1 in the first.

The PJ's popped in another one in the second and went ahead 2-1... It stayed this way until the thrid when the Jumpers got all messed up in their defensive zone and one slid through Bests legs.

O/T was still tied up and a shoot out was the only way to decide this one.

In a shot and a save first by Perry followed by a dubious first goal by the Bandits where the shooter appeared to lose control of the puck, then pull it backwards and score was called a good goal by the ref. Then two goals by the Pudlle Jumpers and two saves by Best saw the Jumpers be victorious for the Texan Division Title for the second season in a row.

This was a great natured, but agressive game where the stands were surpisingly busy with about 100 people showing to watch their family member and friends play a great Saturday night game!

Those receiving a First Round Bye will be.......Then Looking Ahead to Next Session

In the Texan Division it looks like the Puddle Jumpers and Bandits are tied with a big showdown coming this weekend.   Bandits need a win to clinch the division, but either way you shake it those two teams are going to be your first round byes in the Texan Division.   Sens have put on a big charge lately winning several games in a row, but will fall just short of the points they need to be battling for the division title.   Puddle Jumpers are hungry for a Keg, and the Bandits feel like they have unfinished business since making the keg final last season.

In Ranger its a similar story, the Men in Boats are running neck and neck with the Rampage, and these two titans will also battle over the weekend for the division crown.   This division will only get one first round bye with the departure of Mayhem things were left unbalanced, and after a vote from coordinators within the division they decided the 1st place finisher is the only one with the bye.   Rampage need to win to clinch.

Moving on to next season, word is we will have dates and times soon for the winter/spring season.   Not much has been talked about the big split between the current Bronze League of late.   If we take a look at the standings and rosters of the current teams one would conclude that the Spider Monkeys, Jets, Whalers, Indians, Joes and Stingers are all bound for the lower division.   Spider Monkeys have indicated that they are moving back to Euless, so that would leave just four teams that are bound for the bottom.   Puddle Jumpers are bringing in a second team which will compete in the bottom tier with the above mentioned teams, they are slated to be called the Mud Ducks.   The upper division will consist of Bandits, MIB, Rampage, Puddle Jumpers, Sens? and ???

Thoughts.

Teams/Coordinators:

Currently I have the following coordinators for these teams. Chad Siewert’s Flyers and Knute Anderson’s North Stars.

Free Agents simply sign up and will be assigned by me to a team.

Pretty much the same rules from the Original Six league this past summer apply. We will strictly enforce the zero tolerance rule whereas fighting and major penalties are grounds for dismissal from the league. Everyone did a great job last season, so let’s keep it going this Holiday Break with this Showcase.

Rookie Rule:

Any player from the age of 30 to 34 can be considered. Teams can roster up to 3 of these “Rooks”. Candidates should not be “Ringers”.
Go to our website at Nytexsports.com and look for Expasion 6 or Hockey Information.

Bronze League Vintage Game Series this Weekend

This Saturday immediately following the Brahmas and Sundogs we will see the Senators square off against long standing rival the Silver Bullets aka the Jets.   Sens have recently aquired a few former Jets, and been on a little bit of a roll here lately.

Jets have been struggling to get some wins this season, but always play the Sens tough.   Goaltender Alex Moreno will give the Sens offense fits if he is on his game.    Between Moreno and defenseman Brandon Suits, the Jets should be able to slow down if not shut down the Sens offense.

Playoff Picture

Looks like the Puddle Jumpers and Bandits will be the first and second seeds in the Texas Division.   They have a big enough lead that it doesnt look like anyone will be able to catch them.

Over in the Ranger Division, looks like Rampage and MIB are having a good battle for that first place bye.   Biggest shocker going on in that division is the fact that the Indians and Stingers are at the bottom.    Even the Spider Monkeys are past those two teams?

If things stay where they are Keller and the Bees will have to square off to see who advances in the playoffs.
