Sunday Night Hockey

The opening week of the Summer Bronze season will feature the debut of Sunday Night Hockey brought to you by Tuck's Lawn Care and Brewery. The first Tuck's Sunday Night Game will feature a newly revamped Sens team going up against the most penalized team in the league last season, the Puddle Jumpers.

Jumpers are under new management as Bill Ivey has taken over the reigns. Jumpers are a team that should win more games this session. They have a full season under their belts, and are looking to start challenging for the Keg soon.

Senators have made several off season moves that are either going to take them over the edge and bring them their first Keg or drop them backwards and dump them back down to the bottom of the league. Veteran blue liner Fred Walters has moved over to the Bandits and Veteran Senators forward Tim Russell has joined the newly reformed Stingers. Last seasons team coordinator Tony Rice is taking the summer off to spend some time with potential russian brides in Vladivostok Russia.

I predict Sens will win this one 5-3. 20 minutes in penalties, and Ivey will yell for someone to "Get on the Boards."

  1. really only 5-3? I was thinking at least 8-1 Sens.

  2. not with best in goal

  3. Not with anyone in goal. Sens won't have to worry about the rest of their season...they'll have their first Loss under their belt Monday morning. It will take the sting off the rest of them.

  4. Perhaps he meant a 5-3 margin in the fight category. It seems to me that the PJs are the most likely team to start all kinds of unnecessary physical bullshit, regardless of the score of the actual game, and probably despite the coaching of Bill Ivey. In any case, the edge clearly goes to the Sens. Maybe the PJs should forfeit. I mean, it's a bold strategy, Cotton. Maybe it'd work for 'em.

  5. I don't think anyone is scared of the PJ's.

    ReplyDelete
  6. No one should be scared of anyone in this league, this is a rec league and although we got a bad reputation last season we are working on cleaning that up this season.

  7. Whalers just got past the Bandits Saturday night in the shoot-out. There was a lot of contact, but I think all would agree it was a good, clean game and everyone kept their heads... always good to play the Bandits.

  8. PUDDLE JUMPERS WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Final score 6-4. It was a good game all around.

  9. Sens destroyed the PJs. PJs aint nothing to worry about. All they have is Best and thats it.

  10. No kidding, I watched that game. It was a good game for Best and the Sens.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I thought we did pretty good the first period and the second half of the 3rd. And yes, Best kept us in that game all night long. Glad i wasnt in goal.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Whalers #6 Right back at ya Buddy! We always manage to get into the gray area between check and no-check without anyone getting stupid. Good hard played game. Always a pleasure sir!

  13. Best hit in the game was whaler on whaler... Collision!!! Which I got the worst of for sure. hangs head

    Whaler #23

Sharks have dedicated a week to him...He is the most interesting man in the world.

  14. Yes, the Sens played a very good game--some talent on that team. Best kept the 'Jumpers out of trouble, to be sure, but unless one is blind, or in denial, they'd realize that the PJs scored 6.

The only thing the prognosticators got right this time was Ivey yelling, "Get to the Boards!"

Jumpers/Jets next week will be a game to watch. You ain't seen nothin' yet.

  15. Are you serious 42? The last goal there was one defense back while everyone else was waiting for a home-run pass. Might as well have been an empty netter.

That goalie playing for us played AMAZING for being his 3rd game in net ever. Y'all wont be so luck next time.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Did the goalie for the sens get hurt during the game or was it equipment? Even if we didnt score the last goal we still would have won the game.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I dono if at that moment if he was hurt of if it was equipment, but I know it got shot in the knew and it busted open. Dono when that happened though. He is a trooper for sure.

And Yes you guys still would have won with the 5 goal. There are no hard feelings about that game. Sens take it as a win, It was our goalie 2nd game ever I believe vs Best. You stick any other goalie in net for the PJs it would have been a complete blow out. Sometimes you gota look at the positive things and Sens out playing the PJs is one of them. Shots were 49-16 I think so by law that means you were outplayed.

    Good game though.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yeah, it was a good game. Your goalie played very well being his 3rd game. He did take a puck above the pad, below the breezer that took him down for awhile.

It's interesting--in our one playoff game last season, we played against Best, and we out-shot them 40-10, and lost. There is no doubt that we want to improve our shot-on-goal stat, but Best is now a part of our team, and while we were in fact out-played from that stand-point, this is our second season. We played far better than last season, and we'll only improve. Having a great goalie like Best only helps. While we were out-shot, we still won--that means we had more goals, meaning that we did score goals.

The Sens have our respect, and we'll look forward to seeing you guys in the playoffs, or before!

  19. Mike Best is a great goalie, but he likes to watch guys undress in the locker rooms. Hell, he came into our locker room JUST to watch us, with a beer in hand.

    ReplyDelete
  20. You're right PJ42, you won. We got that part. What you're missing is Best played out of his mind. Better than he will on a night in and night out basis. Ask the Spider Monkeys if you can ride Best when he takes 40+ shots a night. GL with all that.

When we got back to the locker room after that game. No one felt like we lost. We played one hell of a game, and with new players on the team (myself being one) and an extremely short bench we have nothing but good things to look forward to.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Better yet, ask the Spider Monkeys how they feel about the PJ's stealing their goalie.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Now ask the Spider Monkeys how they feel about the oil-spill crisis. Or hungry kids in Africa. Or why I've got this thing in my mouth, and I keep poking at it with my tongue, but that's only making it worse...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Orrrrr, ask the Spider Monkeys when they're gonna call it quits.

My similarly named friend, I feel like we should focus on your well thought out, concise, and unwavering argument. Specifically, let's spotlight purely the first sentence, in the interest of any viewers' time.

First, and glaringly obvious, "Fuck the Sens!" is more than two words. In truth, that phrase is clearly three words. Whether your message is inherently right or wrong, I feel like I need to stop you there and immediately inform you that your argument is automatically absurd and mediocre. I mean, who can trust someone's, including any and all county-level hockey guy peoples', opinion who can't even count past 1 correctly? That's essentially the easiest number to count past correctly in the whole spectrum, my friend.

Now, had you admitted that you were just starting, or recommencing, grade-school beforehand, maybe it would've provoked some sympathy, tugged on our mutual and now disenchanted readers' heart-strings, and perhaps swayed some opinions to share your own. After all, nothing is more beautifully, simplistically eloquent than the simple truths that come from a child's mouth.

Second, and closely entwined in delivering the central, albeit shallow and self-thwarted, message in your comment, is the ability to properly execute capitalization in written rhetoric. While I admit the rules of semantics are adapted to, if not blurred in the context of, posting comments on internet blogs, and seemingly even more so those revolving around a sport and, sadly, not a more academic subject-matter, demonstrating a basic understanding of when to correctly capitalize words inside of an otherwise seemingly correct sentence can either subtly, to say the least, support your overall aptitude or unabashedly confirm your lack thereof. Thus, again, regardless of the topic you address, many readers will fail to see any validity in your testimonial. Naturally, however, there are still words, generally called proper nouns, that need to be capitalized after the beginning of a sentence, such as "Sens" in this particular case.

Also, time and time again, as the internet has set a truly ideal stage to tirelessly illustrate, if you wish to claim a malfunction of your 'Caps Lock' key as the culprit, or if your unnecessary exploitation of certain letters was intentionally a demonstration of your determined anger and never-ending zeal on the topic in question, it seems more fitting to enhance every letter of the phrase accordingly. They say it can make your position, ipso facto your logic-skills, look bigger, and who can't appreciate that? Shall we ask the ladies? To exemplify this, I WILL FINISH THIS VERY SENTENCE IN THAT FANATICAL STYLE TO DEMONSTRATE ITS ILLUSORY SUPERIORITY OVER OTHERWISE CIVIL, MATURE DEBATE.

Of course, out of a deep-seeded respect for your freedoms as an American, i.e. the freedom of speech and, ideally for you and your kinfolk, the freedom to participate fully in, and contribute wholly to, the greater public opinion despite fairly apparent and noteworthy mental trauma in years prior, none of this rebuttal refutes, or even directly addresses, the theme of your message. Please note the difficulty associated with this, as much of the Nytex-centered ice-hockey community is in fact fond of the Senators' organization in the Bronze League.

If necessary, a similar dissection of the somehow even worse-off second sentence in your laughable discourse is to come, based upon both the further exemplification of improper semantics as well as the complete lack of evidence to support the implied claims therein --though if you've found any legitimate confirmation that members of the Senators organization are either professional rectal entertainers or outwardly cannibalistic, the world needs to know.

My thanks for your time, old friend.

    Love,
    Eric Andersen

Indeed, but his eloquent portrayal of the English language isn't the first form of debauchery on this blog. So we send it up the the professors and teachers of this fair country to try and better those who are far less educated on the ways of the spoken and written word.

One more thing, fuck Tarrant county... damn I live in Tarrant county, I guess I don't have much else to come back with. Which I do think is quite sad because the illustrious comments on this post deserve much better.

  27. how did we steal best from the spider monkeys? is he the sole property of their team and no one else can talk to him. or could it be that he is friends with a bunch of us and being a beer league, he may have wanted to play on our team?

Two things here 1) Someone with some spare cash please get Eric Anderson a hooker. He really needs a good hange or bj or something to take the edge off.

    2) You can have Mike Best he can stop 44 of 48 shots week in and week out for you, but when you allow that many shots what does it say about your lack of forechecking back checking and defence. Best will not bring you a Keg, you still have to score and you still have to play together as a team. Beating the sens is not that impressive, they have been and always will be a 500 team that relies on one or two guys to score.

and 3) We beat the Stingers

    ReplyDelete
  29. Out of 4 goals there were 3 different goal scorers. So much for that theory.

The Sens play more of a team game than any one else in this league. By far. And I know this because I've been on both sides of the equation.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Brandon-

How would you know what game the Sens play? You have been on the roster one game. You must have it figured out, Sens will win the Keg cause Brandon has been on both sides ofht eequator

Sens were a good team till they added Jets players to their roster. Jets seem to run their mouths more than play hockey. Enjoy the locker room dynamic Sens

    ReplyDelete
  32. holy shit. Blackcocks #9, Im surprised you know how to use a computer. Go back to your grandpa league if your feelings are hurt.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Actually the locker room dynamic has been great so far through a practice and a game. as it should be seeing as how we have been friends with these guys for a while. The sens have been a good team for a while and will continue to be a good team whether or not we win the cup this season. But above all we have fun with friends.

whalers #156: You beat the stingers by icing the puck any time it hit your stick, both games you played against them this season. I'll give you that it worked the first time, and i congratulate you on the victory as I heard it was well fought, but they were ready for you the second go around. And if you wanna compare wins over the Stingers we did it much better than you guys did in the season before last, as have several other teams in previous years, so I wouldn't go flaunting that too much.

As far as Eric and a hooker, it wouldn't help. I have known him the better part of 10 years and trust me you can't keep him quiet.

You are correct about not being able to ride your goalie, gotta have the other aspects of the game and hopefully bill will help the pj's out with that. I look forward to another match-up when we have our full bench and starting goalie :)

Sens Hater: Brandon has been in the league for a long time, subbed in once or twice on our team in previous seasons, and unlike other people who are self proclaimed "haters," we enjoy talking to people like brandon after games going over different aspects of the game. So he may not be an expert on the sens strategies, but he certainly knows how we play and in that first game both of the former jets players that were able to make the game fit right in and played fantastic games, its an pleasure to have them on our roster.

  34. Sens sure are proud of themselves, and love to talk.

    ReplyDelete
  35. As we should be proud of ourselves, since I have been with the team we have not had a losing record. not tooting my own horn, because I am by no means even close to being the best player on the team, but I define a good team that can consistently have a winning record. We sure are proud of ourselves, I know I am proud of the work and fun I have every time I step on the ice.

And "Sens (pick any number you want) Hater," I hope that you have pride in what you do whether it be professional or recreational, if you don't you should probably just give up on life.

Also, yeah we do like to talk, you know why, PRIDE BITCHES!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ilikeblackcocks #9, Once again, who asked you anything? I'll take a Jets player on my team, being a friend with, having a beer with, over even acknowledging your pitiful, self proclaimed, i'm the i in team, gay bug driving, #99 wanna be self. You just like the attention that the players and staff at Nytex give you because you don't get any anywhere else. So, go back to that little crack in the ice that you came from already.

NOBODY LIKES YOU, OR CARES ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAYYYYYYYY!!!

    Thank you come again

  37. Next, all these Sens bashers. They are a little cocky, and full of theirselves, but thats ok. they are confident. Anytime i have ever played against that team in the past, they have been a great group of guys. Sure, they all like the team circle jerk, but they are still all pretty cool. They are the youngest team in the league, and they are going to be the next Stingers. I applaud their efforts. Instead of sittin here bitchin about them, why don't you watch them as a team, and learn something?

And Brandon still sucks my balls.

    ReplyDelete
  38. This is my fourth season in the league and I have played all four with the Sens. We have grown a lot as a team and as friends. The Jets players have always been class acts and I am glad some came to play with us. The Whalers are some good guys too... they talk a little like us, but it is all in good fun. I am having the most fun I have had in years playing at NYTEX and look forward to any challenge. Say what you want to... the league has some great people in it. And yes I talk as much shit if not more than most guys on my team! LOL deal with it and bring your A game to play.

  39. Since we all seem to be fucking things on this thread, I'd like to chime in with my choice of shit to bend over.

    FUCK SUNDAY NIGHT HOCKEY!

What asshole came up with that idea? Must have been Knute. I wonder how many games his bunch of ringers have on Sunday night?

Jesus fucking Christ! If I wanted to play on Sundays, I'd have signed up for it.

Sunday is for NASCAR and sex.... in that order, too! Perhaps NASCAR with sex, if your woman has a flat head and is three feet tall, so she don't block the screen.

    Get it right NYTEX!

  40. Chad S with Nytex/Brahmas/Bronze LeagueJune 25, 2010 at 9:31 AM

In response to the above post, while I disagree about Sundays being for Nascar, I can say that Sunday Night Hockey is not a terrible thing.

When the league expanded to 12 games there were two choices 1) go back to having games at midnight and hope that things dont get delayed in the five bronze games before the late game so that the midnight game actually goes off at midnight.
or 2) take a decent slot on Sunday after most nascar races and golf tournaments are over.

The 10:30 weeknight game slots I guess were another option, but those would be a last resort since this is an adult league and most of us have jobs to get to the next morning.

The Sunday games are spread evenly amongst the teams, so everyone will have to deal with it and move on. Not my first choice for a game night, but when you weigh out the options its a pretty good one.

The Jr. Brahmas have more teams this season than they did last season in addition to the new WSHL Jr. A franchise.

    Enjoy the summer session.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I dont really mind playing on Sundays tbh. Now if they start throwing like 11pm games on Sunday sure that could cause an issue, but I dont see Nytex doing that.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Stingers #27.

Wow, NASCAR man, did someone steal your beer and piss in your cereal?

    Lighten up, Francis!

While I do not particularly enjoy the thouoght of Sunday night hockey, Chad makes a good point. I will say one thing though, it sure would have been nice to know going in that this woiuld be a possibility. Half my guys can't make Sunday games!

Also, it seems like the Wolf Pack is getting screwed here. They play all thier games on Sunday. Perhaps it is they who we need to blame. Could they not play on Fridays? If not, don't sign up. It seems that simple. Somehow, I am afraid it isn't going to be that simple. It never is....

Also, what is this about only having 8 games now? Weren't we slated for ten in the beginning?

    Just wondering.

    See you on the ice.

    ReplyDelete
  43. The season will be ten games for the Bronze League just like it always has been. If you go to league lineup you will notice only 6 or 8 games on there. This doesnt mean the season is going to be that short. This just means the other games have not found their final time slots yet. The rest of the seasons schedule should be out very shortly.

As for the Silver league, I am not playing this summer, so I really dont have a clue what all is going on.

    ReplyDelete
  44. As if you have a clue any other time?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hey - at least NYTEX responded to a complaint...I just assumed they always fell upon deaf ears. Have to give a prop there....

    ReplyDelete
  46. Uhhh, The Wolf Pack play mostly Sundays because they are a Gold team. They dropped to Silver to rape and pillage the summer session. Just another inequity that NYTEX will turn a blind eye towards and piss off many to appease the few.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I know there is a lot of disparity in the Silver League this session. That comes from the Gold league going away, and some of the players who played in the gold league dropping down and assimilating into silver teams or forming new silver teams.

For the fall a draft would be a great way to bring the silver league back to a level playing field. But to do that you have to have all the teams on board which would probably not happen.
