What are the Brawling Rules now!?

So, in last Thursdays games, which started an hour late due to the two Keller High School games ending up in multiple 15+ penalties in both games, we were privileged to watch a fight between MIB and the Bandits when a hockey game broke out...

Number 58 on the Bandits lined up some small kid with an elbow to the face / head area and a small ruckus broke out, at which point the MIB goalie decided to leave his crease and jump on top of said small ruckus and start swinging with everything he had.

The end result of this was that both teams were ejected from the rink by the refs (good call!) and thankfully the games were now back on the time track...

So, what are the league / rink rules on this?

Both teams were ejected, yet two points were awarded to the Bandits for the win!!! Jeez, if this is a message to the other teams to ensure a win, start a fight and make sure you're not the instigator or last man in and you can get the win, this is totally the wrong message...!

As both teams were ejected, surely, both teams should suffer a loss 0-0, with no points awarded for a tie, or they both forfeit... Also then the people that were involved should then suffer the consequences of their actions as we have all been told!

Can I get comments as to what you all think should happen and if Chad is out there what the ruling on the field should be in this instance, so everyone has a very clear understanding of what the rules are...

  1. Bandits were winning the game. MIB had 2 players involved including the goalie. Get the facts straight, MIB decided to quit & leave (even though their original planned goalie Nunn was in the stands as he was in the next game) before the refs finished sorting it out, including the MIB captain calling the ref a douchebag to his face, hence MIB forfeited. The bandits should not be punished for the action of 1 player, not only did MIB have 2 players, they QUIT so they deserve the loss. You punish the individuals not the teams.

  2. But it was the Bandits player #58 that started it all by lining up the 1st MIB Player. I hope that he has been suspended from the whole league for the whole season as he should have been...
Nice way to remove any responsibility of your team for this infraction by the way! Your team will struggle without #58 who seems to be the highest point scorer, oh and wait, the highest PIM holder of your team too... tough loss...

  3. I don't think the first poster was saying that #58 should not face any consequences. But rather that he should have been penalized along with any MIB player involved and the two teams should have continued on. Which I believe was going to happend but MIB did not want to continue without a goalie. I am not 100% positive on that. My point is, there was no bench clearing brawl and a select few chose to lose their cool and they should be punished for it. No need to forfeit anything over 3 people.

  4. That 1st post smells a lot like Greg Perry. MIB had 2 people searching for a goalie that could play Thursday,Devin aka "goalie Nunn" was asked to play as well as another goalie who happened to drive from clear across the metroplex to help out. When they both showed it was decided that Matt who drove in was going to play as Devin still had a game following anyways. And the reason we had 2 involved in the incident is because #58 ran/elbowed our guy behind the goal line initially to begin with.

Knute was conducting an appeals hearing with Bandits coordinator and #58. Another hearing is planned with MIB coordinators. This is in the rule book:

    I. APPEALS-Players can appeal a suspension or game misconduct by contacting csiewert@brahmas.com and cc Knute@nytexsports.com. A hearing will be conducted where the referees, other players, and in some cases non playing witnesses will be interviewed to determine if the suspension/game misconduct was warranted or not.

What happens is the referees that were working the game are interviewed, and players from both sides of the fracas are interviewed as well. After Knute has a chance to talk to everyone he will either stand by the suspensions, or reduce them or lift them.

Initially two players were suspended for the season, the goalie and #58. An appeals hearing has happened before. #99 once had a suspension and game misconduct removed after a hearing. It was determined that he did not instigate or oblige in the fight therefore did not deserve the game suspension.

On the opposite end of the spectrum I have also seen suspensions increased after a hearing. a one game suspension was turned into a three game suspension after it was determined a played used his head and helmet as a weapon with the intent to hurt.

So this issue is not 100% closed yet, but it shall be soon. I was real disapointed in the league last season with fighting and BS that went down. Line Brawl between Joes and Icing was just one thing that comes to mind. This MIB/Bandits thing could have escalated into something similar, but thanks to some good work from the refs we didnt have another line brawl here.

I understand its hockey, and it will get chippy or rough from time to time as emotions heat up, but seriously do we have to throw the gloves off and fight? All this does is discourage people from wanting to play in our facility or sometimes even hockey altogether.

The over 35 league was incident free this summer, so why cant the bronze and silver follow the same model? Last I checked no person has ever gone from an I league or D league all the way up to the NHL or even AHL or CHL. There are no pro scouts in the audience, no college scouts, no one is getting paid to play, and we all (or most of us) have jobs and/or families to go to the next day. So why do we need to go full throttle and start brawls and fights?

I think Rodney King said it best, "Why cant we all get along."

  6. Knute has been talking to referees and personel from both sides of this incident, and will make a final ruling soon.

Initially two players (goalie and 58) were suspended for season. Hearings are going on now. You can request and appeals hearing anytime there is a suspension, it is in the rule book that the coordinators get at the start of the season.

  7. "Initially two players (goalie and 58) were suspended for season." the goalie was the third man in. what about the other MIB player involved?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Sounds like the little MIB guy was the one who got creamed, so he was involved only as a target?

Here's something else about the stats: That game is the only one that has been recorded to date, and updated. Is that because it was easy to do?

Out of curiosity--is the stats job a volunteer, or paid position? If it's volunteer, then I'll just say, "thanks," and shut my pie-hole. But if it's paid, uh, well, something's a bit lacking there...

    ReplyDelete
  9. Stats are updated by a volunteer. Normally they are updated Monday morning or Sunday night following a game weekend. Scoresheets from the weekends games and last thursdays games have not been picked up yet, but are slated to be poicked up and entered later today.

  10. Nytex should invest in purchasing an octagon and when people want to fight, send them to the cage and let the duke it out. I personally prefer the suppended 1 game for fighting and kicked out of the league for the second. I wont go looking for fights but i will hold my own if i need too. Sometimes players need to police the league too.

  11. Knute is fair on these appeals. I can attest as #99 in Bronze league a year ago. Ruling was over turned after investigation.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Rampage #33 is still a douchebag...and Perry from the Bandits is a dumbass. Bandits #58 is goon and needs to be permanently removed from all Nytex leagues before he seriously injures someone. Next he starts shit against my team, I'm just going to call cops.

  13. Sooooo this is off topic, but the stats for the Sens game is wrong. Sens won 4-3 in OT. We only had 5 skaters show up, Me, Palmer, Reagan, Chad,CJ and Davis in net. Can we get that changed to a win? kthx.

    -Krajewski

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yeah that needs to get changed. you guys played a hell of a game for the situation you had. I would have hated to see the score if you guys had your full team.

    ReplyDelete
  15. score has been updated, one tab was not clicked, that was the only problem. Sens win a nailbiter. This is the second iron man win by a team over the stingers. Secret to beating stingers must be show up with 5 skaters.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think the secret to beating this version of the stingers is just to show up at all.

    ReplyDelete
  17. off topic as well, but #99 is a douche bag as well

    ReplyDelete
  18. Damn pussies....who is #99?

    ReplyDelete
  19. If you don't wanna fight, don't drop the gloves. If someone comes and gives you a cheapshot with a elbow or a blindside then let the refs call it and let them sit their time in the penalty box and if the refs don't call it the keep skating. People only fight because both people drop the gloves so both have intentions of fighting.
And as long as their is only a one on one fight with no brawl with another person jumping in then the two should serve their time in the box and keep skating when their 5 mins is up. If you cant keep skating and keep your cool after getting in a fight and serving your time in the box then you dont need to be playing hockey let alone paying to play.

  20. Are appeals complete? Is there a ruling yet?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Rulings can take time with many to interview and gather facts. Good luck.

    ReplyDelete
  22. What a shitty ruling...a 3 game suspension is a joke. Lesson is, go ahead and fight...you'll only get a slap on the wrist. So much for the stricter rules.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Bandits 58 is no sweety...I've watched him in between shift changes punch the Sens kid (who I think works in the pro shop) in the head...knock him to the ground and raise his hands like Rocky looking for applause! It's pathetic and white trashy. He's also He's near the top or led the league in penalties...this is not an isolated incident by any means.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yeah, and he got blown up later in the game.. and then ejected for being a douche about it later. Who cares?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Nothing is finalized yet

    ReplyDelete
  26. Both teams should lose the points and the instigator should be banned for more then 3 games.

    ReplyDelete
  27. No teams should lose points. Punish the players that committed the offenses, not the others on the teams who didn't do anything.

    ReplyDelete
  28. This is a team sport, if you cant keep your cool then you shouldn't be allowed to continue to play in this league. The team knew said person was a hot head and likes to instigate stuff so the team should be punished for their decision to allow this person to continue to play on their team.

  29. My question is: when are the refs going to actually call a game fair. They are horrible and deserve the names Twidle Dee and Twidle Dumb. I have yet to see a game called correctly. The refs could prevent a lot if they would use their eyes and brain (if they have one). They don't call checks, sticking, and roughing about 85% of the time and it just accelerates to full on fighting. Then the teams get punished for dumbass refs. Especially Hale!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. It seems like if you are winning then you will get called for anything but they will not call the other team because they are losing.

    ReplyDelete
  31. hahaha Hale is actually a pretty pathetic ref...i have to agree

    ReplyDelete
  32. bandits are idiots for appealing the suspension. What a bunch of classless douchbags. Whenever the Geico man returns to play with them, I hope that he loses his shit and starts something. Bandits are the new MIB, just a bunch of douschbeags

    ReplyDelete
  33. The Bandits did not appeal #58's suspension. #58 did. And if by "new MIB" you mean running through teams with ease on their way to the keg then you are correct sir.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Dear Bandits,

    Go fuck yourselves.

    Sincerely,

    Everyone in the league

    ReplyDelete
  35. The bandits are the douchiest bunch of douches i have ever seen.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anon 11:09 is correct...and their coordinator is dumb as a box of rocks when it comes to hockey.
