Tough Guy of the Week

Bronze League Tough Guy of the Week

Quick shout out to Senators Captain Jamie Welton who suffered a horrific injury Saturday afternoon at Nytex in the Sens/Jags game. A collision between Welton, Michael Hvidston and the Jags goalie resulted in a broken ankle and fibia for Welton. Big props to Welton who took it like a man, and remained cool as a cucumber while awaiting transport to North Hills Hospital. Welton was first examined by Brahmas Trainer, Tom Hart and Brahmas doc Tony Brozak whose quick actions helped ease the pain while North Richland Hills’ finest arrived to transport. Obviously Jamie will be out the remainder of the season, and probably most of the next season as surgery is most definitely required. Jamie is the Nytex tough guy of the week for having his handling what had to be an immense amount of pain.

Initial reports say the Jags goalie could possibly have a broken clavicle or shoulder as well. The Jags won the game 4-1, all the injuries occurred with less than a minute to go.

More to come in our weekend recaps.

  1. HMMMMMMM, Hvidson? Coincidence, I wonder???????

  2. I'm wondering how many more people Michael Hvidston is going to hurt before Nytex does something. The guy does not belong in the Bronze league. He boldly states that he plays rough, agressive hockey in a beginner league that is non-contact. Why is he pulling this crap late in a game with his team surely on it's way to victory. Not only does he knock out Jamie Welton but his own goaltender. Last week he runs over Ivana while she has the puck. Then he runs Kacey Bird while he was playing the puck behind the net, I don't care what the ref or anyone else says, I saw the play and he clearly ran him. The only positive was it appears that Kacey saw Michael coming and was able to brace for the impact therefore putting Michael on his back.

Nytex either needs to kick this guy out of the league, teams need to refuse to play the Jags, or someone needs to step up and give him a dose of his own medicine.

I propose the third option....I propose a bounty on the head of Michael Hvidston.

  3. The reason that the jags goalie has an injury is from Jamie's stick flying out of control and hitting our goalie in the shoulder/head area. I was three feet from the incident and you cannot tell me that you saw otherwise. If anybody had a perfect view of the incident, it was me. Mikey did not "knock out" Jamie, he hit the puck and Jamie lost his balance. Clearly Jamie is not the best skater in the world because he was turning at the same speed earlier in the game and basically had to use me as a wall to push off of to continue turning. If mike really wanted to hurt Jamie, he damn well could have. Stop this anonymous posting crap and start posting your name. Its rather pathetic that you can't say anything to anybodies face and you have to come bitch on the blog. Another thing, Ivana apparently came to the sens lockerroom after the game and wanted to know how jamie was but was greeted with a slew of "F*** You" and other words. Somebody owes her an apology because regardless of the situation, she hasnt done anything to anybody. If anything she gets hit night in and night out because you guys can't skate and you end up taking her out. Obviously it was a gritty game and people were slashing/hooking/playing physical but I don't understand why people can't just leave it on the ice. I don't understand why people think they need to come out and play like jerks in I league. This is not the NHL, I play to have fun. I hate when people start this cheap shotting crap. Everyone in this league needs to take a freakin chill pill because I don't feel like I'm playing with grown men. I think at this point I'd rather play with a team of 12 year olds because they know more about sportsman ship and having fun then you guys do.

On another note. I hope that Jamie is alright and I wish him a speedy recovery. I know how it is to be knocked out of the game and unable to play.

And as for the bounty thing, Grow up. Run Mikey and I'll have something to say about it. The solution is not "an eye for an eye". How about you talk to the right people or you just don't freakin play.

  4. If you think we have a problem skating and stopping and Ivana doesn't then you are not watching the game Queerdos! She can barely stand up much less skate and stop... As for Hvidston, he definitely to blame for this one. I saw the whole thing too and I talked to an anonymous ref after the game who agreed with me. Think what you want Queerdos, but Hvidston needs to be banned. Oh yeah, maybe you should go play with the 12 year olds, they might be able to teach you something!

Nytex had better open their eyes. That waiver they have you sign, not holding them responsible for any injuries won't hold up if they knowingly allow this to happen. I'm sure that it has been broght to the management's attention that Michael plays rough. If they ignore these comments, they can be found in gross negligence for failure to protect the people that play at Nytex.

I have this on good authority, as I am a lawyer, I play hockey in the silver league, and have signed their release form.

  8. I hope Jamies ankle can be fixed without surgery. If surgery is required I hope he will be able to play again. I can certainly sympathize having a similar injury six weeks ago. I assure all of you it really sucks!!!!
I do know one think the Senators number 2 jersey will never be worn again.

  10. Good comment Ice Dog Lawyer. FYI Jamie Welton is a lawyer as well, and I am sure he knows all about the ins and outs of waivers

  11. Wow, really? "queerdos"?

I don't believe I've ever talked shit about anyone in this league. I don't play dirty. I retaliate when I'm the one being cheapshotted or when my teammates are too. I used to play on the sens and I liked all of you. I don't honestly think I deserve that. No, I was not being an ass in my previous comment either so if you took it that way then thats your problem. Seriously people, grow up and if youre going to insult me then think of a better comeback instead of one that I've heard my whole life. That one popped up in second grade. Congratulations.

What happened to fun and games? And I still don't see an apology to Ivana.

Ivana is a new player. She's getting better every game but I think its up to the people who are better skaters to watch out for her instead. Obviously collisions are going to happen and its up to the players to keep their heads up.

Clearly I have something to learn from 12 year old about sportsmanship and such when you can't even make a civil reply. You have to resort to name calling and insulting. How about you grow up.

  13. As the sitution was... 40 seconds left in the game, up 4-1, was there really a need to "D up" so hard?

Jamie entered the offensive zone alone, with 66 about 5 steps behind him. 66 being the experienced player he has claimed to be, also with his siler league experience, cought up to about a step behind him by the time they hit the crease. Hvidston then wrapped his stick around the front of Jamie and pulled his feet back as he threw an elbow to his back. I definately saw no motion toward the puck by 66, Jamie got a shot off right before he got the shove. Instead Hvidston played the body, which in this instance completely unnecessairy. That goal would'nt have changed the outcome of the game in any way.

All I have to say i Karma is a BITCH.

  14. Hockey is a contact sport even if it is considered "No Checking" league. Accidents happen. Waivers are signed and all are suppose to have their USAH before getting on the ice.

  16. Hockey is not a safe sport by any means. Maybe you should take up basket weaving. Although you may get a splinter in your finger doing that.

  17. Your right gaydos, this is supposed to be a fun league but whenever hvindston steps on the ice it becomes a dangerous league with the way he plays. He does not belong in this league, and if it was my decision in the building at all. With the wake of injuries, conflicts, and pissed off other teams, hell even local skate shops hate the guy, I hope nytex does something. If he was smart he would leave before nytex has to.

As for ivana, I respect her and enjoy playing with her, and after the game was over, I made sure she was ok after the incidental, which she agreed, shot that she took to the chin. But we are not going to apologize for her coming into our locker and be asked nicely by at least 3 people, at least 4 times to leave. That is when she was yelled at by the one injured and several others. Whether her intentions were good or not you don't come into the opposing teams locker room after a horrific injury and try to make nice, it's just not going to go over well, and I guarantee that your locker room would have reacted the same if the tables were turned.

  18. Stick flying at the goalie broke a body part? are you serious? was it shot out of a canon? I'm not sure how often you look at goalies, but being that I play one I know well enough that unless it was fired from a harpoon gun that stick wouldn't do shit.

  19. Has anyone noticed that Hvidston isn't on here talking his normal shit and defending the way he plays.

  20. Or should I saw justifying the way he plays.

  21. Remember that your membership with USA Hockey gives you secondary insurance for injuries at a USAH event, such as the games we all play.

Please follow this link to see the details of the coverage.

  22. Here's a thought: Don't take Viddy's shit!! I have played against Mike for two sessions. The first game he tried to play tough and paid for it. Scott (The Hammer) Stevens saw to that. The next two games he was a pussy cat and fun to play against. Then the fourth game he ran our goalie and was punished right after by Brandon (The Duke) Suits (sorry Brandon, nothing else came to mind).

My point is this: If he knows he will get away with it, he'll do it. I'm not saying 2 minutes in the sin bin. I'm saying no retaliation. He will continue to play his game the way he wants to.

So if you want to call people out, make slurs, put bounties on heads, then please do. It's very entertaining and fun to read!!! However pointless.

  23. First of all, Sorry Gaydos that you have always been called Queerdos since the second grade. I have never heard that name so it's still funny to me. Second, I will not apologize to Ivana... it was her fault for coming into the locker room after an injury like that. Third, I hate to say it, but you fun games went away the moment Hvidston came onto your team. As for everyone else, I love playing at Nytex and I will talk shit on the blog. Get over it! It's all in fun! But I still hate Mike Hvidston and hope something happens to him real soon. At least get him out of Nytex and let him play pond hockey on a warm day in Minnesota.

  27. Just a couple of things to say. First, it does not surprise me that 99/66 was the cause of the collision and unless, like Jets 22 said, you punish him for his actions he will continue his dirty ways. It's pretty lame when he knows that he's not going to lose the game but he still needs to pull his crap. We've pretty much stifled since he ran our goalie. Now the only thing he tries is to intimidate us with his attempt to crush our hands in the handshake line after the game.
Secondly, Ivana wouldn't do anything malicious, and for the Senators to act the way they did was wrong. I believe her intentions were honorable as any good sportsman would.
And, last, the league is losing a great friend and player soon - Kacy Bird. His last game to play is this Saturday. Stop by, buy him a beer, give him your best and send him off on a good note.

I want to thank you for the kind words. A crazy thing happened while my wife and I were packing for our move. We realized that we have an extended family here is Texas and leaving would be very hard to do. With that said, we have decided to stay. I look forward seeing you all at the rink.
