2010 Annual Armed Forces Game

NYTEX Sports Center was buzzing with activity this past Memorial Day where the second annual Armed Forces Game was held. A good crowd was on hand to watch veterans from the Army and Air Force take on veterans from the Navy and Marines.

The proceeds from the game were donated to Honor Flight, a group of dedicated, caring individuals who provide airfare for veterans who have never vivisted the Memorial Wall.

The game started out slowly, with they guys getting to know each other on the ice. The scoring was fairly close through two periods with the Navy/Marines guys holding a one goal lead at 5-4. The third period saw a step up in the tempo as well as aggressiveness as the competitive juices began to flow. The Navy/Marines bunch tallied 3 unanswered goals to put the game away. The Army/Air Force team did all they could to come back, even pulling the goalie to add an extra skater. In the end the Navy/Marines took the game at 8-4.

Thanks to Joanne Stanton and her cohorts for putting this game on again. Dare I say this has become a tradition? It should be. Thanks go out to Frank, and NYTEX for helping out tremendously as well.

If you were out of town, or couldn't make it by the rink and would like to donate to Honor Flight, get hold of Joanne, or drop a donation by the rink. I am sure they can figure out a way to get it to the right people. It is a great cause, so why not pony up and contribute!?

See you at the rink!
